If you have lived in San Antonio for at least a year, it’s guaranteed you’ve heard about Fiesta. Fiesta is San Antonio’s two-week, Spring festival that celebrates the history, tradition, and cultures of San Antonio. Each year it seems to grow larger. There are many traditions passed down each year during fiesta and one of those is collecting various medals from businesses and organizations around the city. This year we had the privilege of designing the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce‘s 2014 Fiesta Medal!

The Fiesta medal design is inspired by papel picado, a traditional Mexican folk art. A rough design was sketched out on the board. We kept in mind the areas of the medal that would be cutout and what parts would be gold or color.

Once we had a rough idea sketched out we created a detailed vector illustration on the computer. We experimented with different colors, but in the end decided on red, orange and white to match SAHCC’s branding.

The medal design received 3rd place in the business category in the first ever Fiesta Medal Contest. You can view the other winners and entries here.

All three medals are available for $10 each. Collect all three and string them together with a piece of ribbon in true papel picado style! ¡Viva Fiesta!
